Bolesławiec

Hi everyone! In this post I would like to present you some informations about my city and interesting places in my hometown which is called Bolesławiec.


BOLESŁAWIEC - THE TOWN OF CERAMICS



Bolesławiec is a town located on the Bóbr River in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in southern western Poland. The city is located about 120 kilometers from Wrocław. For its long-standing pottery-making tradition, Bolesławiec is celebrated as Town of Ceramics. Bolesławiec is a city famous for several hundred years from the production of ceramics with unique, regional designs.

LIVE MUSEUM OF CERAMICS




The Live Museum of Pottery is the museum where people can experience the art of its manual production with their own eyes. This is for people who would like to learn more about Bolesławiec pottery traditions that have been making this city famous round the world for over a century to visit our manufactory. It presents all the stages of the manufacturing process thank to which people can take a closer look at how the pottery is produced. People will able to see all the stages of manufacturing stoneware vessels, starting from the production of the ceramic clay through the process of casing the forms, firing, decorating, glazing, up to the final, second firing of the stoneware vessels. The museum offer a workshop program for children where they have the opportunity to develop their manual skills. They can clay modeling and painting of the vessels and it serves a lesson of the local history. The workshops are even in other languages, for example German or English so children can learn new words in other language. This museum is open from Monday to Sunday. From Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 14:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 14:00. Ticker prices: 15 PLN for adults and 10 PLN for children.



FESTIVAL OF CERAMICS 



This is one of the most popular festivals in Poland. It takes place every year in August. This festival lasts five days. Even many people from other countries come to Bolesławiec for this event. People can buy different things from ceramics and take part in colorful parades of masqueraders, games, concerts, workshops and watch exhibitions. There are many attractions for children, teenagers and older people. One of the most popular attraction on this event is parade where people put clay on themselves. It is symbolic because the ceramics is made of clay. In 2009 Bolesławiec has become the place of breaking the world record for "The longest table with tablewares from ceramic, hand-painted". On the table were 4253 pieces of hand-painted ceramic tableware. The length of the tale was 207 meters.





MUSEUM OF CERAMICS - DEPARTMENT OF CERAMICS





This is the most popular museum in Bolesławiec. Museum of Ceramics is divided into two buildings. In the first building is Department of Ceramics. The museum was founded in 1908. In this museum people can see section of ceramics which include exhibition of ceramics until 1945 and exhibition of ceramics after 1945. The museum is open all year. People can visit the museum from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00. It is closed on Mondays. Normal tickets cost 4 PLN, reduced tickets cost 2 PLN, group tickets for children and teenagers cost only 1 PLN. Admission to the museum on Thursdays is free.



MUSEUM OF CERAMICS - DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY OF BOLESŁAWIEC



In the second building is department of History of Bolesławiec. In this museum people can see ceramics, technique of creating ceramics and archaeological, historical and iconographic collections. They can also admire historical and medieval monuments. This museum is open all year. People can visit the museum from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00. It is closed on Mondays. Normal tickets cost 4 PLN, reduced tickets cost 2 PLN, group tickets for children and teenagers cost only 1 PLN. Admission to the museum on Thursdays is free.

THE OLD TOWN AND TOWN HALL

Historic Town Hall is located in the old town. It was built in 1535. This building is baroque with gothic elements. Currently, the building is the seat of municipal authorities. The market in Bolesławiec, according to Polish urban planners, is one of the most beautiful in the country. Historic town hall is located in the middle of market. Colorful tenements are surrounding from four sides.


VIADUCT

The Bolesławiec Rail Viaduct is a railway bridge over the river Bóbr in Bolesławiec. The bridge was built from 1844 to 1846. It was built because it could help people to get from Wrocław to Dresden by train. Entirely made of stone, it is one of the longest bridges of its type in Poland and in Europe. The length is 490 meters, the height is 26 meters and the width is 8 meters. It is made from sandstone. The building resembles an aqueduct in appearance. Due to upgrades, trains were able to travel up to 160 km/h.
